Temple-Inland® opens door to solid benefits and fire resistance with GreenLite™ Core

DIBOLL, Texas -- Temple-Inland’s GreenLite™ Fiberboard Door Core gets right to the heart of manufacturing premium fire-resistant interior doors that are as easy to produce as they are to sell. GreenLite Door Core is a rigid, lightweight door core that offers a range of benefits, most notably being its fire resistance rating when used in both molded and flush interior doors.

“We’re really excited about the fire resistance test results from Intertek Testing Services,” says Pat Aldred, Vice President, Fiber Products. “GreenLite has been approved for use in a 20-minute fire- rated door. Its fiberboard core burns through slower than a hollow door, yet is more cost-effective than a traditional solid core door…a key consideration when weighing safety, materials and price.”

GreenLite Door Core can be used in a 20-minute fire-rated door (1 3/4”) construction (without hose stream), positive or neutral pressure, as a result of evaluation by Intertek Testing Services. The doors are Category B doors for single swing or pairs. This is in accordance with UBC 7-2 (1997); Testing Standards for Swinging Fire Doors; UL 10B (2008) and UL 10C (2001); Fire Tests of Door Assemblies; NFPA 252 (2008); Standard Methods for Fire Tests of Door Assemblies; and ASTM E 2074 (2004) Standard Method of Fire Tests of Door Assemblies.

GreenLite fiberboard provides the best of both worlds…a solid door feel and substantial swing weight, yet it’s lightweight enough to ensure easier handling, productivity and shipping than traditional high-density composite door cores. No added formaldehyde means lower emissions, a higher STC value means reduced noise transmission – and a high level of recycled content means real “green” value. Not only does it cut and shape easier, GreenLite also reduces worker, tool and machine wear. It delivers 97% certified recycled content for valuable environmental contributions to green rating systems such as LEED, and NAHB Green Building Standard. And because GreenLite is manufactured with no added formaldehyde, it exceeds CARB standards for low-VOC emissions and contributes to the Green Globe rating system.
