DIBOLL, Texas -- Temple-Inland announced the introduction of QuietBrace sound-deadening structural sheathing at last month’s International Builders Show.
As noise proliferation has become more irritating and intrusive, smart buyers are showing a stronger interest in homes built with noise reduction in mind. To meet this new challenge, Temple-Inland has developed QuietBrace, a sound-deadening, structural sheathing that not only provides wall bracing, it also helps reduce outside noise. In fact, QuietBrace provides a noise-reduction coefficient that’s nearly twice as high as common wood structural sheathings such as OSB. And, by combining both benefits in one product, QuietBrace saves builders installation time, money and labor.
“We’re excited to offer this new product that addresses two key customer concerns, noise reduction and structural strength,” says Gary Keeling, product manager for QuietBrace. “And as an added bonus, QuietBrace’s insulating properties are approximately 140% more effective than wood structural panels.”
QuietBrace is certified to conform to the structural-grade fiberboard standard, ASTM C208. That makes QuietBrace acceptable in both the IBC and the IRC as a wall bracing sheathing in conventional light-frame construction and when design for wind is required. QuietBrace structural sheathing is also approved by Underwriters Laboratories as a wall assembly component for multi-family and commercial wall systems requiring a one-hour fire rating in accordance with UL assembly U356.
QuietBrace is available in 4-foot widths and 8-, 9-, and 10-foot lengths. The longer lengths increase installation efficiency by reducing piecing and fitting on 9- and 10-foot walls. Two thicknesses are available: 1/2" and 25/32". QuietBrace can be installed with pneumatic fastening tools with nails or staples.
